Where to Find Chinese Company Registration Information
Find the official Chinese company registry, choose the right search function, and read basic registration fields using a Chinese company name or USCC.
Start with the Chinese legal name or USCC. Confirm the matching company before opening its profile.
To look up a Mainland Chinese company's registration information, start with the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, commonly called GSXT. Bring the company's Chinese registered name or Unified Social Credit Code. Search for the entity, open its record, and look for the basic registration information rather than starting with announcements or an annual-report submission form.
The first useful result is a small set of facts: which company you found, its recorded status, when it was established, where it is registered, and what activities appear in its business scope. You do not need to understand every section of the website to retrieve those details. This guide explains the public lookup route and the Chinese labels you are likely to encounter.

The official starting point
The system's Chinese name is 国家企业信用信息公示系统. “Enterprise credit information” can sound like a credit score, but the service is also an important entry point for company registration records. Shanghai's official English market-access explanation identifies it as the public channel for information collected in the national enterprise registration database.
Use the official address above or follow a link from a market-regulation authority's website. A search-engine result headed “China company registry” may instead lead to a commercial directory, a company-formation agency, or an article. Those services can have legitimate uses, but the heading alone does not establish that you have reached the government lookup.
If you begin on the State Administration for Market Regulation's query-services portal, notice that it contains many kinds of searches. Registration, certification, standards, and other regulatory services answer different questions. A product certificate search will not substitute for a company's registration profile.
Check the actual destination after following a link. Keep the source address with your result so a colleague can return to the same service. If an external provider charges for translation or a compiled report, describe it as that provider's service, not as an official charge to establish that a company exists.
Choose the lookup function
Several nearby functions can distract a first-time visitor. The official Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps channel, for example, displays a company-information search alongside information announcements and enterprise information filing. It is a regional example of the functions, not a promise that every local homepage has an identical layout.
企业信用信息— enterprise credit information- Use this kind of search to find an existing business and open its public profile. It is the relevant starting point when your question is where a supplier is registered.
企业信息填报— enterprise information filing- This is for information submitted on behalf of a business. Reading another company's public profile and filing that company's disclosures are different tasks. A filing page is not the place to begin an ordinary supplier lookup.
信息公告— information announcements- This leads to notices. It can help when you already know that you need a particular announcement, but it is not a substitute for opening the company's basic record.
使用帮助— help- Read the help for the service you are actually using. Search conditions and access requirements can differ between national and local interfaces.
Pages for checking a proposed company name or applying to register a new business serve another purpose again. If a form asks you to propose a trade name, choose an industry, or begin an establishment application, return to the public-information lookup. You are trying to retrieve an existing record, not reserve a name.
Get the name or code
A complete Chinese company name is a practical starting input. Copy it from a business licence or another document identifying the legal entity. Keep the characters and the company ending intact. An English brand, a website name, and a Chinese registered name can refer to different things; translating an English name yourself does not establish what the company registered.
If you have the Unified Social Credit Code, copy the complete 18-character identifier rather than a fragment. Preserve the original document alongside the copied text so you can resolve a typing or OCR error. The separate USCC guide explains where to find the code; there is no need to learn its internal structure just to use it as a search input.
Some official interfaces also accept a registration number. Follow the field label rather than assuming that every number on a document is interchangeable. A tax invoice number, certificate number, and company identifier have different purposes. For this task, you want the identifier attached to the registered business.
Put one search input in at a time. Combining a name, an address, a salesperson's telephone number, and a product description into the box can obscure what the service is being asked to match. Addresses are useful later for comparing a result; do not assume they are a supported search key.
From search box to company page
- Check the scope of the page. Identify whether you are on the national system or a local service. If the page is explicitly limited to one region, a business registered elsewhere may need a different entry point.
- Select the appropriate input, if offered. Some pages use one combined search box; others separate name and identifier searches. On Shanghai's enterprise registration information page, observed on 18 September 2026, the choices were company name and unified social credit identifier/registration number.
- Submit your name or code through the normal interface. Follow any verification or access instructions shown by that service. The Shanghai page displayed a verification challenge during our visit. We inspected the entry form, not a completed company search; access and screen design may change.
- Open the matching company. Compare the Chinese name and, when available, the full identifier with your source document. A result sharing a brand word is a candidate, not an automatic match.
- Read the basic information first. Locate the registration fields before exploring annual reports, changes, or other disclosures. Keep the company name visible while moving between sections so you do not lose track of the subject.
The Shanghai form also displayed a local minimum-name-entry instruction. That does not establish a nationwide search rule. Use the instruction on the page you have opened rather than relying on a character limit copied from an old tutorial.
Likewise, the Shanghai local-channel help describes keyword name searches and a limit on displayed results. A broad keyword can therefore be a poor way to locate one business. Starting with the complete name usually makes the task more manageable. If several plausible companies remain, use the dedicated candidate comparison guide instead of selecting the first row.
Find the basic registration fields
Look for a section labelled basic information or registration information. The terminology and arrangement vary, so use field names rather than a screenshot's exact button positions. Market Entity Registration Regulation: Article 8 lists general registration matters such as name, entity type, business scope, domicile, capital, and the relevant representative or responsible person.
| Chinese label | Meaning | What to take from the page |
|---|---|---|
名称 / 企业名称 |
Registered company name | Copy the complete Chinese name, including the organisational ending. |
统一社会信用代码 |
Unified Social Credit Code | Keep the whole identifier beside the name. |
登记状态 |
Registration status | Preserve the exact displayed wording and the date you checked it. |
法定代表人 / 负责人 |
Legal representative / responsible person | Record the role label as well as the name; do not translate both labels as owner. |
成立日期 |
Establishment date | Record the date for this entity, separately from a brand's claimed history. |
住所 / 主要经营场所 |
Registered domicile / main place of business | Keep the complete address as shown. |
经营范围 |
Business scope | Save the full text before translating or summarising it. |
登记机关 |
Registration authority | Note the authority associated with the record. |
This is a reading aid, not a claim that every page exposes every field in this arrangement. Entity types differ. A branch may identify a responsible person where another business has a legal representative. Keep those distinctions in your notes instead of forcing all results into one template.
For status, copy the Chinese wording before adding a translation. For business scope, expand the text if the interface truncates it. When an address extends over several lines, check that the saved copy includes the final building, floor, or room details. These small capture errors are easier to avoid while the record is open than to reconstruct from a cropped image later.
National and local views
A local official service can be useful when you know the registration region or are following an authority's own link. However, distinguish regional coverage from national coverage. Shanghai's help explicitly describes a service for Shanghai market entities and says that different official local interfaces can display different information for those entities.
Two official pages therefore do not have to be visually identical to be useful. Check that their names and identifiers refer to the same company, then read each field in its own context. A basic registration panel, a dated change entry, and an annual-report section do not necessarily describe the same moment.
Keep the heading above a value when you save it. A figure found inside a particular year's annual report should retain that year; a former address in a change section should remain labelled historical. If one page omits a field, write that it was not displayed there. Do not turn an absent value into a zero or silently fill it from a different company.
If the national site does not load in your browser, that is an access problem at that moment, not a search result about the supplier. You can retry the normal route or consult a relevant authority's local service. For a persistent missing-company result, follow the separate article on why a Chinese company cannot be found; this guide does not treat a blank screen as a registration finding.
Working in another language
A browser translation can help you navigate headings, but keep the Chinese company name, identifier, role labels, and original business-scope text available. Translate the explanation around those values without replacing the underlying identifiers. That makes it possible to ask a colleague to check a difficult phrase against the same record.
A multilingual company-search service can help when the main obstacle is reading and organising the result. In ChinaValidate Company Search, use the company name or USCC to begin identifying the Mainland business. Check the current access options for profile details and reports. ChinaValidate is a separate service; a translated result should not be described as a government-issued translation or certificate.
If the supplier gave you only an English name, the first question is still which Chinese legal name belongs to it. The English-name lookup guide handles that discovery task. Changing the language of the interface does not, by itself, resolve an ambiguous business identity.
Save your lookup result
Before closing the page, save the source address, lookup date, search input, selected company name, and code. Add the basic fields you needed. A screenshot is more useful when it includes the section heading and company identity; a translation is more useful when it stays beside the original Chinese text.
For a simple lookup note, use: “Searched [Chinese name or code] on [official service] on [date]. Opened [registered name], identifier [code]. Recorded status [original wording], establishment date [date], and registered address [address].” Leave an unavailable field marked unavailable. This is a fill-in example, not a real company result.
You have now answered the immediate question: where to find the business and what its registration page says. If your next question is whether that company should become your supplier, continue with the broader Chinese company verification guide. Keeping the lookup focused makes it easier to complete—and gives the next check the correct company to work with.
